Glasgow Walks

Nicola Atkinson created Los Angeles Electric in response to the place she was experiencing at the time. The electricity pylons being the essence of the place, the source that charges everyday activity in our modern world. The images were absent of the surrounding activity of people, these power exchanges in the sky almost representing the personal exchanges on the street, both purposeful and busy in their own way.

For her up and coming November exhibition This is Permanent in Santa Monica, California, she returns to the city from Scotland with Glasgow Walks, people and characters going about their business in Glasgow city centre. The images are devoid of personal history or direction, leaving you wondering where are they going and who are they. With every one you find yourself studying the clothes and demeanour, searching for their story and destination. Assumptions are made in a heartbeat, as human nature has programmed us to do but life experience more often than not tells us not to do. The 20 hand drawn people are placed on stoneware hand thrown cups, the exteriors white and interiors green with 14 karat gold rims.
